A 111-year-old New Yorker who lived on the Upper West Side and had been certified as the oldest man in the world died Sunday morning, according to friends who had been taking care of him.

Dr. Imich, who holds a Ph.D. in Zoology, was born in Poland on February 4,1903, fled Poland when the Nazis took over in 1939, survived a slave labor camp in Russia and moved to the United States in 1951 where he became an author on parapsychology.
